Katy Davis and Emma Davis Twin sisters have died within three days of each other after testing positive for coronavirus, their sister has said.
Children’s nurse Katy Davis, died at Southampton General Hospital on Tuesday, the hospital confirmed. Identical twin Emma, herself a former nurse, died at the same hospital early on Friday, their sister Zoe said.
“They always said they had come into the world together and would go out together as well,” she said.
Katy Davis was 38 years old.
Twin Sisters Die With COVID-19
On Tuesday, NHS children’s nurse Katy Davis, 38, died at Southampton General Hospital where she worked.
Her twin sister Emma, a former nurse, died earlier on Friday at the same hospital.
Their sister Zoe paid tribute to the twins, who lived together and had health conditions.
She said: “They always said they had come into the world together and would go out together as well.
“There are no words to describe how special they were.”
In a statement, University Hospital Southampton described Katy as “a nurse people would aspire to be like.
“University Hospital Southampton has today confirmed the death of a member of staff, Katy Davis, aged 38, who had tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) on admission to hospital.
“Katy had an underlying health condition and had been unwell for some time prior to her admission. She sadly died on the evening of Tuesday, April 21 at Southampton General Hospital.”
The Royal College of Nursing Statement
The Royal College of Nursing said: “She’s been described as a dedicated and selfless nurse who had time for everyone sharing her skills and knowledge to ensure excellent patient care.”
The hospital could not confirm Emma Davis’ death, which the family said was also related to coronavirus infection.
Hospital staff held a “Clap for Katy” outside the main entrance on Thursday evening, hours before Emma’s reported death.
